Pharmacovigilance Committee

Goal:-

The broad goal of the committee will be to generate awareness about the need of identifying and reporting of Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR), amongst all sections of health care providers (doctors, consultants, nurses, pharmacists, post graduate and under graduate students, service providers etc) of Government Medical College & Hospital, Bettiah report the  same to the appropriate authorities.

 

Objectives:-

  1. To generate awareness about ADRs among health are providers and students of GMC, Bettiah, by different activities.
  2. To pick up ADRs occurring in the patients admitted to GMCH and report the same to appropriate authorities. i.e- National Pharmacovigilance Center.
  3. To carry out causality analysis of ADRs.
  4. To undertake scientific and research activities pertaining to ADRs.
  5. To make efforts to minimize the chances of ADR and thereby make drug therapy safer and rational.
  6. To take up activities to strengthen to ongoing National Pharmacovigilance.

Tenure of the Committee:-

03 July, 2022 to 30 June, 2025 (Three Years)

The committee shall be reconstituted every three years.

 

Scope of the Committee:-

The committee shall meet once in 3 months. The committee shall be responsible for planning implementing and monitoring of various activities of the Pharmacovigilance committee. They will also work as monitors and facilitators.

 

Role:-

  1. Chairman:

The chairman will chair and conduct all meetings and will function as administrative head of the committee.

  1. Convener:-

The convener shall be responsible for arranging meetings and conducting activities with help of member secretary. He will also chair the meeting in absence of chairman.

  1. Member Secretary:-

The member secretary will play the pivotal role and shall undertake following activities to help the task of the convener.

  1. Prepare agenda of the meeting and send the advance to members.
  2. Arrange for meetings, write minutes, circulate and document the same.

iii.                Organize the awareness generation programmes.

  1. Coordinate the ADR collection and reporting to the appropriate authorities.
  2. Carry out causality assessment.
  3. Coordinate the research activities.

vii.              Raise a library for the committee.

viii.             Carry out any other task assigned by the committee.

 

  1. Members:-

Members will primarily work as subject experts and will also do the mentoring of young faculty/ resident doctors/ students in the area of ADR. They will give suggestions for better and effective functioning of the committee and shall work as facilitators.

FUNCTIONS OF MEDICAL EDUCATION UNIT

The functions of MEUs vary from institution to institution; their scope of activities can include undergraduate and postgraduate education and continuing professional education. These activities could extend not only to medical professionals but also to other health-care professions such as dentistry, pharmacy, medical technology and nursing. In general, the functions of MEUs span the areas of research, teaching, service, workshops, evaluation, consultancies, and the career development of staff.

Objectives:

Faculty members should avail of modern educational technology while teaching the students and to attain  objective for faculty development and provide learning resource material for teachers. With this directive from MCI, Medical Education Units (MEU) have been created in  Government Medical College, Bettiah.

  1. An essential objective of MEUs across institutions is to conduct research and provide scientifically sound information that advances and promotes medical education.
  2. The extent and priority of research in different MEUs depends on many identified factors such as access to research expertise, the medical education innovation, the quality of  faculty and the complementary areas of expertise they possess, critical mass of educational scholars, status of the medical education unit, mentorship, faculty development for   advanced training in educational sfield.
  3. MEUs play an important part in creating a culture of research by innovating, developing new approaches to medical education and publishing their findings.
  4. Communication concerning research such as running journal clubs, circulating medical education newsletters, and conducting medical education rounds  are also ways used by the  units for promoting this culture.
  5. An important role of MEUs is to provide an academic home for and nurture the careers of faculty members wanting to focus on educational scholarship and develop as future  medical educationists. By ensuring that these faculty members are given the necessary exposure to the field, and are allowed to develop their studies and publish research in   medical education, MEUs help them to gain academic rewards and recognition for their expertise.
  1. MEUs play important role in several contemporary needs. By providing specialised resources for teaching, service and a focus on educational research, they are essential to the  continued development of medical education as a discipline.

College Council Committee:

 

HODs of all departments will be the member of College Council Committee Authorized representative will attend the meeting the absence of respective department.

 

Function:

 

  1. The council is purely an advisory body and will have no executive powers.
  1. To consider the programme of lectures and practical works to approve or amend it, as may appear necessary subject to the final approval of the Principal,Govt. Medical college,

      Bettiah.

  1. To Consider any other question effecting the interest of the college.
  2. To Consider any other question effecting the interest  of Hospital  & college staff.
  3. To consider & chalk out programme for development of Medical College regarding its infrastructure & functioning.
  4. To sought suggestion from members regarding day to day functioning of college with reference to benefit of students.
  5. Suggestions from members   regarding proper functioning of  Hospital.
  6. To plan & implement programme to facilitate advancement  & update  knowledgeof medical students.
  7. Need to take all necessary precautions and preventive measures so that no untoward incidence directly or indirectly amounting to ragging occurs in the campus. Heads of departments to be vigilant in this direction.
  8. Sensitization of the Senior Students:In order to sensitize the senior students  Steps should be taken to address them in phase wise manner and to bring to their notice the relevant statutory provisions and anti-disciplinary measures which can be taken against those who are found to perpetrate, abate, assist or get involved in any sort of physical or mental harassment which also now comes under the purview of the definition of ragging.
  9. Undertaking from StudentsAs per binding regulations referred above, an undertaking about non-indulgence in ragging, has to be obtained from every student which is to be duly countersigned by their parents. The institute has to take measures in this direction and the procedure of obtaining such undertaking will be completed by 1st of Sep, 2014.
  1. Anti-Ragging Committee & Squad:At the level of institute an Anti-Ragging Committee has been constituted as per directives of the Medical Council of India, New Delhi. The above committees have been constituted comprising of members of Faculty.
